:: PICK MY ELECTIVES HISTORY::

In the 2004 - 2005 school year two counselors approached the technology specialist about creating an online pre-registration system. The three of them, two counselors and an ECS sketched out what the system would do from a counselors perspective. The program has been improved several times as more and more schools begin to use the PME pre-registration software.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I choose band as my first choice, and then I decide to change to art?
You can change your mind as many times as you want during the open registration time with just a click of the button.

What if we don’t have a computer or internet access at home?
Schools can provide opportunities to access the website. Please check with your school about what opportunities exist.

At Canarelli, students are given library/computer time during lunches; students can request to see their counselor for assistance; students that do not choose their elective during the open registration period are called to the computer lab to make their selection; an incoming 6th grade parent night is held in which parents are given assistance in computer labs; and, elementary school counselors are invited to Canarelli for registration information and are trained to assist students at their school site.

How do I get more information about each elective, so that I know what I want my son or daughter to choose?
A description of each elective is provided by a click of the button that guides you to the elective you are interested in.

I understand that some elective courses have fees. How do I find out about fees before I make my choice?
In order to make a final selection, you will be informed that there is a fee associated with the class. You will have to click on a button agreeing to the fees.

Why do I need to make more than one choice since I can only have one elective?
Electives can only be offered if staffing allows. Sometimes staffing can change, affecting what courses can be offered. Also, elective programs can fill quickly, necessitating consideration of students’ second and third choices. If at all possible, the first choice will be given.

If my son or daughter was in band this year, and we want to choose band again, how do we know which band (intermediate or advanced) to choose?
Your student’s elective teacher will recommend your son or daughter for the appropriate band. That recommendation will appear directly above the place where you make your selection.

What if the elective requires an application?
If the elective that you choose requires an application, there will be a place next to this choice that will say “download application.” Click this button and print an application. There will also be direction as to where to turn the application in and when it is due.

Do I have to have good grades to get the elective I want?
Some electives will require a minimum grade point average. If you are eligible for any of these electives, you will see them listed in the choices you can choose from. If you do not meet these requirements, you will not see these electives listed as a choice you can make.

What about the other academic courses required? Do we need to register for these?
No. Teachers and counselors will make placement recommendations after considering many factors, such as standardized test scores, and other placement testing.
